Robotic Knee Replacement with CORI

HOW TRADITIONAL PARTIAL REPLACEMENT METHODS WORK

Using traditional surgical methods, cutting blocks or guides are placed on the thigh bone (femur) and shin bone (tibia) to help direct a surgical saw in removing the diseased bone and cartilage. This method has been considered technically challenging, as accurately placing these blocks can be difficult. In recent years, advanced surgical techniques using robotic assistance have been developed to provide a higher level of accuracy and precision.

NAVIO ROBOTIC ASSISTANCE PROVIDES ACCURACY AND PRECISION

The NAVIO system is an advancement in the way our orthopedic surgeons perform partial knee replacement. The system works in conjunction with our surgeon's skilled hands to achieve the precise positioning of the knee implant based on each patient's unique anatomy. This added level of accuracy can help improve the function, feel and potential longevity of the partial knee implant.

Through an advanced computer program, the NAVIO system provides robotic assistance that relays precise information about your knee to a robotics-assisted handpiece used by our surgeons during the procedure. By collecting patient-specific data, boundaries are established for the handpiece so we can remove the damaged surfaces of your knee, balance your joint, and position the implant with greater precision.

Patient Experience:

Six weeks ago I had total knee replacement with Dr. Kaper. My experience and results have been fantastic.

I have severe arthritis in my right knee. I was a competitive black belt with my own dojo. I had also taught at the Policy Academy and advanced police arrest and control tactics in California for several years. I enjoyed every second of these experiences but paid the price. I arrived at Dr. Kaper's office without the ability to bend my knee. I had prior knee surgeries without good results and was anxious to have another one. I decided to proceed with surgery due to the level of pain. I met Dr. Kaper and decided he was a good choice.

On July 13th, I had my right knee replaced. Surgery was done with the NAVIO technique that included assistance from a robot. I love technology and was thrilled. After many years of pain, I woke up from surgery and the pain was gone. My family said it was the drugs and to be careful. I went for a walk with physical therapy the same day I had surgery was fine. The next day I was fine. The hospital warned me to keep ahead of the pain and to take the medication. I took meds on the drive home and before I went to sleep that night. The next day I took only 1 pill and decided any more was unnecessary. I have been on extra strength Tylenol ever since.

Now I am enjoying my new found freedom.

I found by going to outpatient PT, I was at least 3 to 4 weeks ahead and in a lot less pain than other people who had a replacement about the same time frame. They did not have the "robot" - so I am thinking that Dr. Kaper and his NAVIO robotic technique make a big difference. I am so grateful to Dr. Kaper and his amazing team for my great results.
